Michael Horovitz writes: ‘The first New Departures publication since 2007, Open Windows, Open Doorsby Vanessa Vie, is being launched, all of sixty years since Michael Horovitz first launched the acclaimed experimental imprint, and its performance-based sibling, Live New Departures. Open Windows, Open Doors is Vanessa Vie’s debut volume of diverse poetic writings, accompanied by a substantial selection of her varied visual art inventions created between 1997 and 2019. Its release this spring extends the essential commitment of the New Departures imprint to wonderment, internationalism and multi-medic cross-pollination in the arts. Almost entirely self-taught as both multi-media artist and poet-writer, as well as singer-songwriter-musician, Vanessa grew up on the coast of Northern Spain, and came to Britain at the end of the last millennium. She decided to stay in Albion for good in 2000, largely inspired by absorbing herself in the visionary art and poetry of William Blake. Advance copies of Open Windows, Open Doors (£14.99, 128 pages), will be available for perusal and purchase in the Club on Thursday 5th March, between 5.30 and 7.30pm. Vanessa will be singing and signing copies in the Billiards Room and later in the Ladies Bar. For more information please contact New Departures on 020 7229 7850, or via michaelhorovitz@me.com
